Books that help to explain big emotions

We do love our own growing library in our home. Reading books together is a passion we all share. Needless to say that we cover quite a variety of topics through books. While we have our own share of “entertaining” books for the sake of a good story, we also make use of books to introduce themes and important topics. One of these topics is the emotional awareness, understanding feelings in your boding and learning how to cope in moments of overwhelm. I’d like to share we you the books we’ve been looking at so far, and that helped us keep the conversation about big emotions going.

Why talking about emotions with children helps them

Reading about emotions with children is crucial for their emotional development and understanding of themselves and others. When children encounter characters facing various emotional challenges, they learn to recognise and articulate their own feelings. This not only helps them develop empathy but also provides a safe space to discuss complex emotions. Additionally, books that delve into emotions can serve as excellent conversation starters, allowing parents and caregivers to guide discussions on feelings, coping strategies, and emotional responses. By integrating these themes into reading time, families can foster open communication, encourage emotional intelligence, and equip children with the tools they need to navigate their own emotional landscapes.
