It is a charming and quietly subversive picture book that takes a playful swipe at the notion of exclusivity in friendship.
A Squirrel describes how he found their best friend. Momo. Once they overcome the initial shyness they were best friends and explored the forest together through all seasons. Then, the squirrel discovers another potential best friend Pok. All of a sudden Squirrel cannot make up his mind who their true best friend is, since you can only have one best friend.
Our son is asking “Why?” every time we get to the point that Squirrel states that you can only have one best friend. Good question. Why only one? Where is the idea coming from that you cannot have more than one best friend by your side? Luckily, Squirrel has the chance of finding out if it’s possible. And maybe, readers of this book also shake a bit the idea of how friendship has to look like, and maybe readers of this book also will fall in love with the idea that friendship can look any imaginable way.
